Where to Look When Searching for Leaks in Your Roof

A leaky roof can lead to damage to the structure of your home as well as to belongings you keep inside it. Water damage can also contribute to the growth of mold and rot within your walls. It is therefore important that you know what to look for and where to look.

Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford® offers a great video and accompanying article that explains how to located the source of a water leak in your roof if you notice water stains on your ceiling. We believe that this how-to video, Tips for Locating Hard to Find Roof Leaks, can be beneficial to you.

  • Measure down from the roof peak to the highest point of the leak. When the roof is dry, inspect that part of your roof for damage.
  • If you cannot find the source of the leak, search higher since water can run down and penetrate your home from points lower than the actual source of the leak.
  • Always use caution when going up on your roof.
