Lawn & Garden To-Do List for September

September’s moderate weather makes it the perfect month to get out in the lawn and tackle important fall maintenance tasks.  If you’re not quite sure what all needs to be done before the first frost hits, we’ve found the perfect to-do list for you to use.

According to Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford, there are several areas of your lawn and garden that need special attention this month. You can download a printable to-do list here, but below we’ve highlighted a few key chores:

  • Remove Dead Shrubs and Trees: You can also plant container-grown trees and shrubs to replace the ones your remove.
  • Plant Some Late-Season Vegetables: Great options include peas, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages, kale, brussels sprouts, leeks, lettuce, radishes, turnips, and onions.
  • Bring Your Houseplants Indoors: Before the cold arrives to destroy your favorite potted plants, bring them indoors.
  • Stamp Out Slugs: These pesky critters are active in September. Be sure to apply a slug control product to keep them from destroying your lawn and garden.
  • Install Gutter Guards: You’ll simplify the leaf-cleaning process this fall with guards that keep leaves and other debris from clogging your gutters.
