Chicagoland residents happily welcome the Spring Season each year. While many take advantage of the warmer weather to open windows, air out the house, and do some spring cleaning, others prefer to work outside landscaping and preparing their lawns for the growth that will soon take place.
Blogger Michael Franco published a great article on Bob Vila’s website, entitled Five Home Maintenance Tips for Spring, in which he lays out information about things you might want to be doing right now, if you haven’t started already. Some of his tips include doing the following
- Inspecting: Did the harsh winter weather damage your home? Be sure to check your home’s exterior. You can safely inspect the roof from the ground using a pair of binoculars. Look for missing or damaged shingles, bent or damaged flashing. If you notice anything amiss, you can attempt to make repairs on your own if you are comfortable with doing that, or you can contact a trusted local contractor. Also be sure to check your gutters to ensure that they are free from debris.
- Pruning: Pruning trees not only help them look and grow better, it can also keep limbs from hanging over your house or providing an easy way for critters like squirrels and raccoons to get access to your house where they can damage your roof and gutters. Be sure to wear safety glasses and exercise caution when trimming trees.
- Cleaning: Spring is a great time to clean your home’s exterior including its siding, windows, foundation, deck, gutters, patio furniture, grill, driveway and more. For cleaning your siding, you may benefit from renting and using a power washer or with the HYDE PivotJet Pro, as recommended in the article.
